It has been less than a year since Roku introduced an update to its line of streaming media players, and now we have the Roku 2 which has just received approval from the FCC. Comprising of three models, you will find model numbers 3000X, 3050X, and 3100X coming your way in due time. It is said that all three boxes will go under the monikers Roku 2 HD, XD, and XS, respectively in due time. No idea on whether there will be anything new software-wise, but a bunch of hardware changes have been introduced already – never mind that the upgrade is minor in nature.
Physically, the new models are rounder and smaller compared to their predecessors, measuring 44.65mm x 44.65mm, making them roughly the size of an Apple TV. Underneath the hood lies a Broadcom 2835 SOC, an 802.11n radio, a microSD memory card slot, Bluetooth connectivity and a reset button – no longer do you need to unplug the box whenever an app freezes.
